Chin State shares international borders with India and Bangladesh, as well as with three national States/ Regions- Rakhine, Magway, and Sagaing. Chin comprises 9 townships and covers 36,072 km2 and the capital city is Hakha. It is the second smallest state by population with an estimated population of 0.54 million (2023 UNFPA Projections) and density of 15 people per square kilometre.

Chin is one of the least developed Myanmar’s States/Regions and chronic poverty and food insecurity have been important concerns, along with their other consequences such as health and migration issues. These have been exacerbated by the intensifying conflict. Chin State witnessed some of the first major clashes following Feb 2021 (International Crisis Group, Mar 2025). The conflict has displaced 101,300 people (about 20% of State's population) as of 11 Aug 2025. Interventions have often been hampered by road closures due to conflict, logistical difficulties in physical access to and from different townships due to geographical characteristics of Chin State.
