Visualising Rainfall in Myanmar: An Interactive Dashboard
Myanmar is highly vulnerable and prone to floods. In addition to being the most frequent natural disaster, floods also have the highest Average Annual Loss (AAL). Riverine flooding, the most extensive flood hazard in Myanmar, occurs regularly during the monsoon season and can cost over USD 1 million in damage annually and result in hundreds of deaths. Recently in September 2024, an estimated 1 million people across 70 out of the 330 townships in Myanmar were reportedly affected by flooding from heavy monsoon rains and remnants of Typhoon Yagi.
Understanding rainfall patterns can help mitigate and prevent these flood risks. This dashboard from MIMU allows users to explore rainfall data to better understand historical trends, regional variability, and predictive insights for effective planning and decision-making.
Navigate through the pages to explore monthly and annual rainfall data, state/region and township-level rainfall comparisons, and use the predictive analysis feature to compare predictions with actual data.
